CWU Legislative Priorities 2019-2021 Released

Central Washington has released their Legislative priorities for 2019-2021 Legislative session. CWU’s Operating Budget Priorities include a focus on Mental Health Services, Aviation Expansion, GAME ON! and Teacher Shortage Solutions. To learn more about these priorities please click here.

The highest priority in Central Washington University’s 2019-2021 Capital Budget Request is $35 million to complete construction of a Health Sciences academic facility. According to the Office of Financial Management (OFM), the Heath Sciences project received the highest score for any building project proposed by the four-year universities for 2019-21. The objective process, which includes scoring panels composed of staff and representatives of OFM, the Department of Enterprise Services, the Washington Student Achievement Council, and the four-year universities, reviews proposals and assigns points based on merit and value. The project’s high score reflects the high campus need for this specialized space and the poor condition of Hertz Hall, which it is replacing on campus.

CWU’s #2 priority includes $15 million for Energy Efficiency Systems. This infrastructure project reduces energy consumption and ensures reliable heating and cooling by replacing two antiquated boilers and buy an energy-efficient chiller. The project expands steam distribution to improve heating reliability and reduce air emissions.

The #3 priority includes $6.9 million design request for Health Education to renovate and expand the 60-year old Nicholson Pavilion to provide needed instructional space in order to accommodate demand for the Department of Physical Education, School Health, and Movement Studies.

CWU’s Capital budget also highlights two additional design requests for Farrell Hall and a renovation of the Psychology building. It also includes Aviation expansion funds, code improvements for Randall Hall, infrastructure upgrades and addresses program functional space for the Departments of Communication, Aerospace Studies, and Military Sciences, and funding for Bouillon Hall improvements that will complete phase 2 of a renovation to convert the facility into a one-stop shop for student services.
